Pregnancy Diet Guide

*As of May 2019, Dr. Selitsky does not deliver anymore after a successful 18 years. Dr. Selitsky is able to confirm pregnancy and provide care up to 12 week gestational age.

​Foods to avoid during pregnancy

As a rule of thumb, you should avoid consuming the following foods during your entire pregnancy cycle:

  • Raw fish (i.e., sushi, sashimi, etc…)
  • Any undercooked meat – this includes medium, medium rare, and rare steaks
  • Spicy food

Green and red diet of Dr. Selitsky

Instead of keeping a long list of safe foods to consume during pregnancy, you can use our simple green and red diet list. The foods in the list are broken-down into those that contain folic acid (green) and those that container iron and/or vitamin C (red).

Green
  • Asparagus
  • Avocado
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Celery
  • Coriander (aka cilantro)
  • Cucumber
  • Green peas
  • Green pepper
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Spinach
Red
  • Beet (beetroot)
  • Carrots
  • Raspberry
  • Red apple
  • Red meat (except for undercooked meat as described in the Foods to avoid during pregnancy section)
  • Strawberry
  • Tomatoes
